Guided relaxation
Guided relaxation sessions for work teams
A live, guided break for teams in the middle of a high-stress cycle. Guided imagery, visualization and breathwork to ease tension and mental fatigue, and help people reset.
What happens in a session
Dr. Jones leads the group through guided imagery, visualization and breathwork. There's nothing to prepare and nothing to discuss. People listen, follow along and notice what shifts.
- Guided imagery to ease tension and mental fatigue
- Visualization and breathwork to encourage deep relaxation
- A clear way back so people can reset, refocus and return to work
When teams tend to want one
- In the middle of a long push, when people can't simply take time off
- After a launch, an incident or a quarter-end
- During a stretch of organizational change or uncertainty
- As a recurring pause during a demanding season
What it will and won't do
Relaxation is a learnable skill, and it was the most commonly used approach in a 2008 meta-analysis of workplace stress programs. That same analysis found cognitive-behavioral programs consistently produced larger effects, which is why our workshops teach reframing as well as breathing.
So a guided session is a good way to give people real rest and something to take back to their desks. It won't resolve the workload that caused the tension in the first place. If you're looking for lasting skills, consider pairing it with a burnout workshop.
Questions
Questions about guided relaxation
Is this therapy?
No. It's a guided group relaxation session, not psychotherapy or treatment, and it doesn't replace individual care.
Do people have to do anything awkward?
No. Participants follow along with their own imagery and breathing. Nobody is asked to share anything personal.
Can people join from an open office?
Yes. A private setting isn't required, though a space free of disruption is preferred.
Is it suitable for everyone?
Anyone can stop or simply sit quietly at any point. Anyone who feels lightheaded should return to normal breathing, and anyone with a health concern should check with their own clinician.
Are the sessions recorded?
No. Sessions are not recorded.
